HIV and AIDS Basics
Progressive weight loss in people with HIV can be a sign of AIDS
Occasionally, a person with HIV who has not yet developed AIDS can experience serious weight loss, which is often defined as a loss of 10 percent of your total body fat or more. But doctors say such weight loss usually corresponds with severe immune deficiency, so a person who has lost that much weight may have progressed to AIDS.
